TEMS
- Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension - auto adjust for hard/soft
depending on braking hard cornering etc. Don't know how well it
works, but it is good fun to watch the little light flicking from
hard to soft!
The diesel engine with Auto and
4X4 gives around 30mpg with reasonable acceleration and good cruise
speed. Five up with camping gear will see 110kph (65mph) all day.
Off-road ability is surprisingly good (as you all know) especially
in the sand which is typical here in Western Australia.
Engine braking is reassuringly good, especially for an auto - maybe
the combo of diesel and auto isn't so bad?
Incidentally, the Japanese import
Toyota four wheels drives are all labeled as 'Surf' if they are
'off-road' 4X4. Here in Australia the imported Toyota Four-Runner
is known simply as the 'Surf' (but not the locally sold one, that
is still called four-runner), and as a result mine has been dubbed
the 'Pregnant Surf' or 'Preggy Surf'.
I like the name so Preggy Surf it is! |

Front - Clear side lights next to headlights are operated when the
indicators are turned on to light around the corner (I think you guys
got that too?) |

Side - standard chrome steel wheels. Six sun roofs - front four lift
at outside edge, hinged along the center spine, back two are fixed.
All have a sliding internal cover, and are dark tinted. |

Interior front - (Sorry about the out-of-focus) - lever to left of
automatic select lever is hi-lo range select, to the right is handbrake.
4WD select is the little lowermost button to the right of the vent
controls.Speedo is left large dial, tacho is right large dial, top
center is fuel, lower center is temp, and a good row of warning lights
under that lot. Turbo boost light (no gauge) is within the taco dial.
|

Interior rear - the center seats both spin around 180 degrees to face
the rear. The rear most seats are 50/50 splitfold, folding down flat
and then up against the side walls. With the middle seats spun and
rears folded there is almost as much room as with no seats! |
