Location
On the Road, based in Southern Arizona.

I had been looking for a 4wd Van since I bought my old 2wd. This van came up on eBay and was near where I had lived in California, so I could get to it. The paint is still very shinny and has a slight purple iridescence to it. There is some minor body damage on the driver's side that I will probably have fixed eventually. The interior is very clean.

I'm in the process of setting up the van for long-term expedition style travel. I've built in a custom bed for the back with plenty of storage underneath and a 12v fridge. I'm going to add GPS, compressed air, added fuel tanks, custom metal front bumper, driving lights, underside protection (transfer case, transmission, front end), second battery with isolator, and CB and/or 2M radios.

Service so far:
New Battery, and battery terminals.
Changed Oil @3000 or less - (10w30)/Fram(TG16)
Transmission fluid exchange
F&R Differential fluid exchange
Transfer case fluid exchange
Fixed many flat tires (I lived in the desert: thorns, nails, glass, sharp rocks)
Replaced dashboard plastic with part from my '86
Full alignment for free from Toyota (See why here)
New air filter
New front tires 205/75/14
Replaced automatic locking hubs with manual hubs
Front brakes including new rotors
New spark plugs, distributor cap, and rotor
Torsion bars cranked 7 turns
New Gabriel Mountain Ryder gas shocks (front)
New Bridgestone Dueler A/T 6-ply tires (4)
Replaced alternator
New water pump
New PS hose
Fixed radiator hose
Welded broken exhaust pipe
New rear brake pads, turned drums
New windshield
Replaced transmission mount

Planned Service (in order):

  1. Fix Exhaust leak @ manifold
  2. Replace Muffler, and Catalytic converter
I hope to eventually round out my fleet with a nice stock fj40 Landcruiser and some kind of hybrid. Dan - dan@shugpro.com
